Tag Trap
Latest figures from the Home Office (March 2011) show that mobile phone thefts surged in 2010, with more than 700,000 handsets stolen, a rise of 190% since 1995.
"Tag Trap" aids Police Forces to target theft "hotspots" such as night clubs and events, enabling the interception of thieves in possession of stolen mobile devices almost immediately after the incident.
Operation
A small, discrete RFID "tag" device is implanted into a host unit (iPhone/ipod/smartphone).
This uniquely identifiable host unit is left unattended in the target premises, vulnerable to any thieves operating in the locality.
The exit doorway of the building is fitted with a Gateway Detector.
When the modified unit is carried out of the building, it passes the Gateway Detector where the antenna detects the tag presence, activating an alert to nearby waiting police units.
